Queen V Upsell Engine

My Contributions

I led UX strategy and interface design for both the customer-facing upsell experience and internal Shopify app. Collaborating with offshore developers to define technical requirements, I designed scalable rule-setting logic, and ensured seamless cart behavior through thoughtful interaction design. I delivered a solution that boosted sales and was later adopted across multiple brand lines.

About Queen V

Queen V is a bold and empowering feminine wellness brand on a mission to reduce the stigma around vaginal health. Known for its cheeky tone and vibrant color palette, Queen V delivers high-quality products made from better-for-you ingredients that resonate with women of all ages.

Identifying Key Users

Due to the low price point of individual products, most customers weren’t reaching the $25 free shipping threshold, resulting in missed sales opportunities. To increase average order value, we needed a way to intelligently suggest relevant add-ons based on cart contents. The solution had to be both seamless for the shopper and configurable by the internal sales team.

One Product, Two UIs

Customer-Facing UI

A right-hand drawer appeared after users spent 5–8 seconds in their cart, showcasing up to two targeted product suggestions. Users could easily add items, complete with variant options, to their cart. If a user removed the original item that triggered the upsell, the suggested product was automatically removed as well, maintaining logical cart behavior.

Internal Shopify App UI

Sales admins could define product pairings, conditions, and discounts via a custom interface built into Shopify. The rule-based system allowed for precise targeting and easy adjustments using flexible Actions controls.

The Solution

In partnership with an offshore dev team, we built a fully custom Shopify app that enabled personalized upsells and greater control over merchandising strategies. Within two months of launch, the upsell engine contributed to a 28% increase in product sales. The tool was later rebranded and rolled out across additional product lines within the parent company.
